This is a national embarrassment.

Bud Light!?

Bud Freakin’ Light?

The President of the United States, who made a point of campaigning in brewpubs and served Stoudt’s at his party for the press, is going to pour a watery, tasteless beer brewed by a Belgian-owned corporation at the silly get-together in the White House tomorrow between him and the two guys who got into that foolish “mine is bigger than yours” contretemps in Cambridge last week?

That’s Cambridge, Massachusetts, by the way, the state that is home to what is now the largest American-owned brewery.

Who the hell is advising this man?

That anything other than Sam Adams Lager was chosen for this made-for-TV event is embarrassing.

That a crap beer made by a foreign-owned corporation is what actually will be served is an abomination.

  1. How do you really feel Jack? Actually I couldn’t agree more - who the heck is advising him?

  2. For what its worth, ABI is a public company, owned by people all over the planet, including Americans. Sam Adams is public as well, and I bet there are Brazilians and Belgians that own a piece of it also. Foreign-managed is probably a better way to put it.

That said, I agree, they could at least pick something better. How about going to a tavern for some stimulus?

  3. Honestly, can’t say I am surprised. Kind of feel like Obama the President is not the same person who we voted for last fall.

  4. How many people does AB employ in the US? Those are union jobs btw vs SAM which I am pretty sure is non union( I know Lehigh is non union ) This is politics not a beer tatsting. Sometimes you people forget that close to 90% of the US beer consuming (voting)public could care less about craft beer

  5. [...] Sixpack is happy we have a president who wants to settle differences over beer while Jack Curtin is less than pleased by the Commander-in-Chief went with Bud [...]

  6. Sam Adams is hardly a micro-brewery + probably sales equal to Budweiser in some parts. Give me a break. No matter what POTUS picked you would have been PO’s - foreign beer = foreign; microbrew = why pick that particular one + leave all the others out. Something too malty + comments about inner city, etc. etc. Stop your b*tching and get your own house in order. You’re really concerned that Obama isn’t the same guy you voted for cause he’s having a Bud Light? You’ve got issues.

  7. Andrew, agree on the “not the same guy” thing being silly but you are off base on the rest. I repeat, largest American owned brewery and located in the state where the incident happened and will throw in “beer named after early American patriot” to kick the pot up a tad.

    It’s a no-brainer from a political standpoint.

  8. His beer selection did not tell me he is “not the same guy” - his actions, or should I say inactions for the past 6 months tell me that. I was just saying that his selection did not surprise me at all.

    Yay, http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/rulings/promise-broken/

Meanwhile, while we diddle ourselves over what beer he chose, health care reform dies.

  9. Boston Breer co produces 1.38m barrels and employees around 350 people Anheuser-Busch Companies (the north american subsidiary of AB-inbev )employs 31,000 people not to mention all the indirect jobs (teamsters) . Unions would give him a hard time if he pitches a non union beer to boot Politically speaking THAT is a no brainer. AND anybody who was naive enough to believe he was really going to be able to institute single payer health care and shut down the the most powerful industry in the WORLD well… I have a brewery in Lawrenceville I would like to sell you.

  10. Unions suck.

  11. The level of the discourse just dropped a ton…and that sucks.

  12. Jack, You should write a cartoon about it :)

  13. That’s what you get with a liberal, communist in the White House. We’ll all be drinking Bud Light in the next few years if Obama has his way. Everything else must be banned as it has a negative impact on our nationalized healthcare system. Come to think of it, we may want to just serve Buckler - the VP has the right idea!

Socialism sucks! I brew my own beer and will be damned if they try to take that away from me!
