The silence of the lamb.
Like the sweet and gentle creature of the header, Kindly Old Mr. Curtin is piling up Good Karma points today, tomorrow (and last Friday) by spending several hours a day as part of a tag-team house-sitting operation for my daughter and her family, who are in Florida at Disney World with their kids and my ex-wife.
The duty includes (hell, it is the duty) tending to Harley, the new dog in my daughter’s family, and Dharma, my ex-wife’s dog, while allowing Buddy, my super dog, to express his serious displeasure about the whole situation.
About Harley: my daughter’s family lost Bailey, their longtime pet (older than any of the kids) after 15 years earlier this year. They’ve been slowing moving toward getting a replacement and a week ago this past Saturday were at my granddaughter’s soccer game and seated next to woman whose black lab had just had puppies. She had one with her and, long story short, they ended up buying Harley on the spot. I was over there for dinner that night and contributed to the name, mostly by voting on the winning side in a discussion of two alternatives.
About Dharma: a very smart poodle-type, a bit skittish and on Friday so much so that she tried to bite. Bu today, she came downstairs when we arrived and engaged in a triple menage à buttsniff with the other two and allow me take her outside to do doggie doo.
About Buddy: he is the smallest of the trio even though Harley is a mere puppy, but is also a very committed male chauvinist and whose only recourse is barking furiously as they, as women will, ignore his instructions.
This makes for mucho stress for the handler fella.
Nice guys do finish last.
I do drink when I get home.
