Market Watch watches Dogfish Head.

Market Watch, a wine, spirits and beer trade monthly which is slowly beginning to get craft beer and brewers in its sights, devoted five pages (a major editorial commitment for them) to Dogfish Head in its December issue. Nice story, all in all, and one with two comments that caught my eye.

The first is an editorial one by writer Terri Allan, presumably an accurate report of what was told her in interviews:

Another Dogfish Head brewpub about 200 miles from Milton is under consideration…

No, this is not one of the license deals setting up  Dogfish Alehouses under other management.  It’s a company-owned and operated brewpub. Anybody out there with the skills and interest to draw a 200-mile radius with Milton in the center and give us some possible locations?

The other eye-catcher was a quote from Sam the Man himself:

“The recession isn’t necessarily bad for craft beer, because it helps consumers think about how they’re going to spend their money,” Calagione explains.

I have some thoughts on what he might mean by that and I can either argue that is a wise perspective or that it makes no sense (what consumers, why is that good, say what?)  with equal fervor.

I’m wondering what some of you might think. Check in or forever hold your silence.

It’s halftime of the Montana v. Villanova football championship game right now, with the Cats down by 5. I keep trying to catch a sidelines glimpse of our pal Gina, Femme Fermental and daughter of VU coach Andy Talley, as I promised to do (over on her site), but no luck so far.

Oh, and I’m using a 24oz bottle of the DFH/Sierra Nevada collaboration beer, Life and Limb, to help me make it through the night. More about that in a subsequent post.
