[UPDATED] The Inevitable Ruch Passes On Some (Gasp! Vaguely Accurate) Victory News.

NOTE: This post has been UPDATED onĀ  19 Jan 2010 based on Bill Covaleski’s comment below. Corrections are enclosed in brackets and underlined in the paragraphs wherein they appear.

Nobody from Victory has sent me a frantic email asking me to ignore the latest Richard Ruch email (yeah, that happened once upon a time), so I guess it’s safe to spread the word to those of you reading this who are not yet on his Spam List. I mean, there must be a few lucky souls out there, right?

The immediate news is that the the first Braumeister Pils of 2010, Tetnangner-Tettnang Pils, is on at the brewpub right now. Hard to believe that this series is nearly eight years old; it seems like about half that in memory. [Actually, the Braumeister series dates back to 2000 so it is ten years old]

Next up, says The Inevitable, will be an English Brown Ale, which he thinks is their first ever attempt at that style. Wanna bet they nail it? [Actually, Victory brewed a single hop ESB series in 2002-03]

Finally, Victory will also initiate another single-hop variety series, Pursuit of the Pale Ales, in which “American hop pale ales will be brewed and available on draft as CO2 and cask-conditioned versions.” I swear that has something of a familiar ring but I just can’t quite place my finger on it. [Actually, the name f the series is Pursuit Pale Ale, followed by the name of the specific hop in each instance]

Anyway, it all sounds like regular trips to Downingtown will have to remain part of the routine for most of us. I still miss walking in and knowing that Richard would be on the same stool at the far corner of the old Long Bar—his spot now is a slightly moveable feast, one of three or four stools at the center of the new bar—but there’s no sense clinging to the past when the present looks to be so fine.

  1. Clarifications on Mr. Ruch’s input, if you’ll indulge us:
    - Our Braumeister Pils series dates back to summer of 2000 when we came out with “Black Forest Pils” hopped solely with… German Tettnang!
    - The series is named ‘Pursuit Pale Ale’ and each variant will note the hop variety directly after that name. First one tapped yesterday featured Nugget hops so it is called Pursuit Pale Ale - Nugget. We did this single hop ale experiment with ESB (2002 - 2003) for a few batches and turned our focus on pilsners.

  2. Indulge you, Bill? We need you, lest we wander the earth wrapped in misinformation. At least Richard got his name right.

  3. [...] This post has been updated and corrected to reflect Reality rather than Richard-ality. My apologies. [...]

  4. Jack, Mr. Misinfornation, you’re my mentor! I always thought that misinformation is better than no information at all.

  5. I always thought that Miss Information was the pretty lady who minded that counter in the center of the shopping mall. Mr. would, presumably, be her daddy…
