The Tom Sawyer gambit.

Tomorrow’s New York Times highlights a trend for craft brewers to offer customers a real insider’s look at the business of brewing, right down to cleaning out the tanks. Like the man says in the story, it ain’t work if it’s fun.  Also, you are making beer, an accomplishment more likely to impress your own Becky Thatcher that drawing pictures of houses if she’s the woman you think she is.

One of the secret strengths of craft’s little corner of the beer world has always been the breaking down of the walls between producers and customers. Add in the even stronger bond between brewers and homebrewers are you have one of the primary factors in allowing crafts to continue to thrive and grow even in a terrible economy, second only to consumer perception of quality and value for their hard-earned dollars.

  1. Um, that was already in today’s NY Times. I read it early this morning. Unless it was only in the e-mailed edition. That’s where I e-mailed the link from.

  2. It has a publication date of February 28, which appears right under the byline. That’s tomorrow, which is Sunday.

If this is just a clever ploy to call me out for not crediting you with sending me the link, however, well played, my friend.

  3. Ok, sorry about that. I didn’t see the date on it when I read the article. I just read that and the headline and figured it was from today’s paper. Didn’t even really pay attention to who wrote the article so bad on me as well for that. My bad.
