The Union Jack Report #1: Goat Master Steve Emerges.

I am told by the most reliable of sources, a Mr. Thomas Steigelmann who apparently spends roughly 25 hours a day on premises, that Sly Fox Night at Union Jack’s on the Manatawny last Friday, the one I missed while wrestling with the demons of the interweb, was something of a smashing success. The place was packed, the brewery team was there in full force and the beer flowed freely.

Most intriguing, however, was news that Steve Jacoby, the entirely too youthful looking Dorian Grey of the local brewing scene, rediscovered his inner BeerAdvocate for the evening. Jacoby, now a full time brewer at Sly Fox, apparently was in high form, yelling at his boss, some fella named O’Reilly, and whacking Steigelmann in the belly with a cask-tapping mallet repeatedly. It is, as I have proven all too often, amazing what happens to a man when he has a ride home.

Jacoby’s sudden emergence on the public scene is likely no accident. The man has apparently hired himself an agent, as evidenced in this until-now overlooked story in the West Chester Daily Local News.

Seriously, Steve is one of the good guys, a man who retired a couple of years back, got a part-time, underpaid job at the Royersford brewery because “all I ever wanted to do was brew,” loved the work and is now a full-time brewer under O’Reilly and director of brewery operations Tim Ohst. And he will be horribly embarrassed by all this attention.

I still think he has that picture in the attic, though.
