Tom Steigelmann, gentleman and scholar.

“Scholar” may be pushing it…hell, so might “gentleman,” comes to that…but let’s all give a shout out to a…um–good guy. Yeah, that works.

Those of you who pay attention (the few, the brave, the lonely) will recall that the week prior to my week in the hospital I had written here, in so many words, that nothing would keep me about from the big Port Brewing Draught event at Union Jack’s on the Manatawny.

But miss it I did.

And so, on Tuesday, after a bit of telephoning back and forth initiated by him, Tom dropped off samples of both Old Viscoscity and Judgment Day for me at Sly Fox Royersford, where I picked them up following a check-up visit with the surgeon who did my appendectomy.

The former of those beers was in an old Triumph Brewing flip-top bottles, the other filled about one-quarter of a Selin’s Grove growler. They were, shall we say, not in optimum condition. But not totally gone and good enough, especially after I let glasses of each warm up, close enough to the way they were intended to at least give me some semblance of what I had missed.

It was a magnificent gesture and I just wanted to express my appreciation to Tom in public and it don’t get no more public than here.

Thanks, Big Guy.
