Thursday at Teresa’s.
As you may have already read elsewhere, the early Sly Fox Christmas Party at Teresa’s Next Door in Wayne was a fine evening, marked by the Resurrection of Big Dan (who did not, truth to tell, appear all that comfortable and, I am told, consumed merely half a beer; Cruella was in fine spirits, however).
My two favorites among the Fox brews were the aged Renard d’Or and Abbey Xtra, each of which was spectacular. The former has always aged well and the latter was a very pleasant–and, at 5% abv, very drinkable–surprise. I should add that I’m not sure I would go so far as Mr. Sixpack and deem it Tripel-like. The kicker is, as far as I know, nobody is quite sure how long these two were squirreled away.
The 2008 Christmas Ale, which I have already said, if not written here, strikes me as the best ever, was a bit more spice-forward on draught than it was in the bottle I had tried previously, and quite drinkable. The unspiced Red Fox Ale version which was on cask at Phoenixville the following day was, however, surprisingly sweet and less satisfying than last year’s.
A good crowd was on hand and while I never did get to sit down and enjoy a real meal, I did try some food items offered me here and there and was quite taken with the garlic-y snails and a really fine (and huge) scallop. I probably don’t mention often enough what a suburban treasure Teresa’s is. About the only fault I can find is that the overall beer list is often just a tad too Big; a few more sessionable offerings would be a welcome addition to the list.
