Iron Hill Media takes Small Brewpub 2012 honors in San Diego.

Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant in Media and head brewer Bob Barrar were named the World Beer Cup Champion Small Brewpub and Brewmaster at the 2012 World Beer Cup ceremonies which closed out the Craft Beer Conference in San Diego last night after winning Gold Medals in the British-Style Imperial Stout category for Russian Imperial Stout and in the Old Ale category for Old Ale.

Iron Hill’s Newark, Del. location, the original pub in the group, won a Bronze for Grodzinski in the Smoke Beer Category; Justin Sproul is head brewer there.

Two other regional breweries won Bronze Medals: Hershey’s Troegs Brewery and brewmaster John Trogner for Troegenator in the Traditional German-Style Bock category and Philadelphia’s Dock Street Brewery and head brewer Scott Morrison for Prisoner of Hell in the Belgian-Style Strong Pale Ale category.

A Silver Medal for Pabst Brewing Co. in the American-Style Cream Ale or Lager category is credited to Allentown in the official awards list but that is presumably an error since that plant is now owned by Boston Beer Co.

NOTE: This story is based on the winners list posted online by the Brewers Association and has been cross-posted, in a slightly different form, at the Beer Yard website.

NOTE #2: Our staff, in rushing through the posted results, missed seeing that Dogfish Head Red and White won a Bronze Medal in the Experimental Beer Category. Those involved have been chastised.
