Wholesaler of the Year – Origlio Beverage
Of particularly note to those of us out in this part of the world among the previously unrevealed winners were The Beer Yard for Best Suburban Beer Wholesaler and the Sly Fox Goat Races for Best Beer Event. The latter I certainly would have thought should be among the publicly announced over many of those which were included ( and no, I’m not saying which ones).
The full list also changes the perception of things a bit. While Weyerbacher Brewing was, and remains, the clear star of the show for the voters, Tröegs Brewing picked up a handful of medals that also makes one sit up and take notice.
It was a good night, all in all, but I really think they need to come up with a way of noting all the honorees at this celebration if it is going to become an annual thing, either a reading of the list the winners in all the categories for which there is no public presentation or, at a minimum, a nicely printed list of booklet of all the winners.

Am I the only one who questions the validity of any “best of” awards determined by internet poll? Shouldn’t they be call “most popular” or “best at getting our friends and email list to vote for us” or maybe even (perish the thought) “best at stuffing the ballot box” awards.
Sure sounds like Thomas didn’t win an award now doesn’t it? I’m sure all of the winners are horrible places/brewers/etc and should fire themselves/close immediately! You are the only one that questions the validity Thomas. Maybe you should run the awards next year genius…. How about next year you try harder and then we can all question the validity based on how you could have possibly won without having a friend or a vote. Then we can “perish the thought” of you stuffing all of those votes in a ballot box for yourself.
Let’s play nice. fellas. All awards shows in which the general public votes are essentially popularity shows. Nothing wrong with being popular (or so I’m told; never tried it myself).
I tend to look at it more from the perspective of the nominees, which make up some of the best of the Philly beer scene. I’m not really show how to quantitatively name of the best of anything in this regard.
So, let’s look at the winners and give them the credit they deserve, almost all of which are difficult to argue. And, celebrate all of the nominees (whom, if I’m not mistaken, are chosen by their peers, not the public) that go a long way in making up our rich fabric of great beer and bars in and around Philadelphia.
