ABOUT THIS SITE

“I DRINK NO CIDER,
BUT FEAST ON PHILADELPHIA BEER.”

–John Adams, in a letter to his wife Abigail

Liquid Diet is a beer blog (mostly) which focuses on the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley region but is more than willing to spread its wings and fly beyond those borders. This feature was born in the dead tree press but moved online in 1998 and to this WordPress format on January 21, 2008. The approach here, more often than not, is less reverent and casual than what you will find on the great majority of beer blogs—and there are a great majority of beer blogs, are there not?—becauseĀ  somebody’s got to not take it all so seriously and have some fun with it. I’m your man.

My name is Jack Curtin and I write about beer in print for Celebrator Beer News, American Brewer, Mid-Atlantic Brewing News, Ale Street News and New Brewer on a regular basis. I am both a columnist and feature writer for the first three, a contributing writer to the others. Online, I am the content editor for news items, events listings and beer descriptions at The Beer Yard and also have a second blog, I Have Heard the Mermaids Singing, which is not about beer but about everything else. Some of the real world creeps into this little corner of the internets as well because man does not live by beer alone.

Welcome.

“Malt does more than Milton can
To justify god’s ways to man
Ale, man, ale’s the stuff to drink
For fellows whom it hurts to think
Look into the pewter pot
To see the world as the world’s not.”
–A. E. Houseman-
